Learn from my first Instagram Challenge
So what did I learn? Was it successful? Will you do another challenge? How can you learn from my experience?
Near the end of January of this year I got the bright idea to create my own Instagram challenge. The first thing I learned was to take more than 2 days to plan out your challenge. When I mean the end of January I am being literal. The challenge started February 1st. I posted the information for the challenge the last day of January.
A helpful workbook to make planning easier is a great tool. I found Pretty Gram Perfect a workbook for doing a Instagram Challenge by Ivorymix.
Having great Instagram friends can’t hurt either. @whit2ney gave me a great suggestion. Find accounts like @bookstachallenges that share/promote challenges.
Don’t get discouraged. It is going to feel like no one is listening. You might go through the whole challenge and no one takes part. The important thing to remember is the other reasons you began the challenge. Also you are showing that you have persistence and can follow through.
Was it successful?
That of course depends on what you consider successful. I had clear ideas on why I wanted to do this challenge. I do feel it was successful because I met those needs.
My personal goals for the challenge.
I have been focusing on building my freelance writer and author brand. Another goal is to get a base of fans for my writing. I am going to need those fans when my novella comes out in early 2019. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do everything needed to run a challenge for a month.
What can you take away from my experience?
Have more than one goal in mind when you start an Instagram challenge.
Finish the challenge. The rewards of crossing the finish line are better than the disappointment.
Meet new people and be honest with them about your struggles. They can offer some great advice.
Hashtags make a world of difference.
I do believe that you will see more Instagram challenges from me.
I started the challenge with 113 followers and 146 posts on my Instagram.
I ended the challenge with 148 followers and 212 posts on my Instagram.
The most popular piece of writing I posted was from Day 4. The prompt was Super Bowl.
The most popular prompt, posted on Day 10. Continue your favorite movie.
