Preparing for Camp NaNo
Writing Book 3 of The Fire Series
NaNoWriMo is a national writing community that has three events in the year. Two camp NaNo’s one in April and the other in July. The large event happens in November. If you follow authors on Youtube you will often run into Preptober and NaNoWriMo posts. I won a camp a few years ago with The Fire Inside. I won my first NaNoWriMo last year with an Urban Fantasy Noir Mystery novel. I am looking to win this April with book 3 of The Fire Series. If the Seas Catch Fire, Steve and Mallory’s story.
You first meet both of these characters in the first novel Into the Fire. Steve is the co-founder of Travis’s band Home. He is also a Freelance journalist. You can learn more about him on the Dating profile page.
Mallory is a corporate Interior designer and Raven’s best friend.

So how do you prepare for a Camp NaNo event?
Well first you want to sign up with NaNoWriMo, it’s free. You can search for me and add me as a writing buddy.
I make a temporary book cover for the project I am working on.
Pick your project and add the details to the site.
Make a Pinterest board to keep ideas and inspiration here is mine for this book
Pick your outline or plotting method. Well if you’re like me I am a plotter.
Get to know your characters and how they might react to situations.
Get to know your setting and locations. Seattle for me.
Get to know your genre and what readers expect from the genre.
Pick your soundtrack, or update your writing music station.
Pick your writing software this time I am using yWrite
Share your excitement for the story with fans and friends.
Join writers groups on social media, chat rooms, and/or the NaNo site. I run a 5-minute writing group on Facebook and Discord. Commit below if you would like to know more about the group.
Another thing I am doing is looking for guest blog hosts for the month of April. So I don’t have to write a blog every week during the event and I can share my space with other authors.
