How to take 10 minutes a week and give your subscribers what they want from you. Many of us have Patron and, if not, then at least newsletter subscribers. Why would I want to write stories for them as an author? Today we are going to talk about giving your readers what they want from you, words, and incentives for being subscribers. It will only take 10 minutes of your time each week. How about that?
Why do authors need subscribers?
I’m sure that you’ve seen the posts on Pinterest and in your writing social media groups that your greatest asset as an author is your Newsletter subscriber list. And I’m sure you’ve thought to yourself, how do I get subscribers and why would they want to sign up for my newsletter? One sure-fire way to gain subscribers is to give them something for subscribing and I mean more than your newsletter emails.
I’ve found that most of my subscribers joined because I advertised something I was offering subscribers. Access to sneak peeks of stories before publication, stories that are only available to subscribers.
Where else can you have subscribers besides your newsletter?
Writers’ Street Team or ARC team
A writers’ street team is a special group of your uber-fans. They share your work on their social media and by word of mouth. You can also combine these kinds of groups with your ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) team. A group of readers who sign up to get advanced reads of your publications.
Patron and the like.
These are sites where members can support you with money to help your writing community grow. Here are a few to check out.

Discord chat server
Discord is a chat server where you can also use voice and live stream video. Members can join and you can use it to create a community around your writing or even a writing community.
This is my Discord server. We would love to have you. We host daily writing challenges, 5-minute writing challenges, Writing Retreats, Writing Workshops, Book Club, critique group, and more.
Closed Facebook Groups or other members-only groups.
Facebook offers a wide variety of group options and you can create a closed group that members have to sign up for.
These are just a few options. What ideas do these bring to mind for you? I would love to hear from you in the comments.
Adds to building a beneficial writing routine.
A Writing routine is important to writers and authors. According to Writers’ Write. “Instead of writing daily, we can rather focus on writing regularly.
The word ‘routine’ does not specify how often you must write. Google says routine is a sequence of actions regularly followed. That is all you need to do. If daily writing is not working for you right now, or never did, make an appointment with yourself whether it is once a week or three times a week, but regularly is the most important word. (Once a month though, may not be enough. You need to write as much as possible, but every day isn’t compulsory.)
The first challenge is, of course, to find the time. We literally need to make it or find it. Shorter, more regular appointments may help. Finding three hours to write is a challenge but finding ten minutes is do-able. I find starting my day with a writing session or ending my day with it is easier, but if lunchtime is the only time you have, go for it.”
Let’s get started. What you’ll need?
A prompt
10 minutes of your time
A timer
A place to write
A place to post your writing to
That’s it, that's all you need.
Look at your prompt, set your timer, and start writing. Don’t worry at first about fixing anything you only have ten minutes, just free write whatever comes to mind. After the timer goes off, put it aside. Go onto your other tasks for the day. The next day or days later, come back and edit it, then post it for your readers. Make a regular schedule that your subscribers can expect and you’ve done it.
