If The Seas Catch Fire
Book 3 of The Fire Series
I’m drafting this book, so my goal is 50k words in under 30 days. I am taking Sundays off and leaving a few days for events and chronic pain days.
What am I using to write?
I’m using yWrite.
I like that it has a database attached and the way it keeps track of word count in different ways for me.
What am I using to keep track of word count?
I am of course using the NaNoWriMo stats tracker, as well as my own google sheets, and a word tracker that Kate Kavanaugh developed and you can get yours here.
Get that writing tracker: https://ko-fi.com/post/DOWNLOADABLE-W...
Day 1
I Finished chapter 1 and started chapter 2. My word count totaled 2,586 for the day. I got a sun sticker in my journal for the day. Chapter 1 takes place on Christmas day and Steve is at Travis and Raven’s for Christmas lunch. Travis has a surprise for Raven. Chapter 2 takes place in Southern California. Mallory is visiting her Grandmother and mother for the holiday. The contrast between their experiences of the same day is drastic and heart-wrenching.
Day 2
I finished Chapter 2, started Chapter 3, and added a new scene to the chapter. My word count totaled 4,568. Just shy of my 5k goal. I got my 2nd sun sticker in my journal. Chapter 2 ended with a text message conversation between Mallory and Raven. In chapter 3 we meet one of Mallory’s antagonists.
Day 3
Virtual Tour day. I drew a rain cloud in my journal to show I didn’t write today. Because I was on a rotation of social media sites all day long. We had contests, giveaways, Q&As, and a book reading on Instagram Live. I learned a lot and have plans for a blog post on what I learned and what I will do differently next time. I would love to hear from you if you have done a solo virtual tour.
Day 4
Rest day meant another rain cloud in my journal.
Day 5
I finished Chapter 3, cut a scene from Chapter 4, added a new scene, and finished the chapter. Sun sticker day for sure. My word count totaled 6,874 for the day. Chapters 3 and 4 take place on New Year’s Eve. Travis and Raven are hosting a party at the hotel they met in back in book 1, The Fire Inside.
Day 6
I finished Chapter 5, which turned out to be a short chapter. I am sure it will grow in the next stage of the novel. I started Chapter 6 and almost finished it. I have one scene left to write today for this chapter. My word count totaled 10,361 for the day. I made it to my 10k goal.
Today
Started with a strawberry harvest from my garden. Working on this blog and then it will be writing sprints to reach my writing goal of 11,365 for the day.
Weekly goal
Reach 20,457 words on my #CampNanoWriMo project. Do my taxes. Research candidates for a local election coming up. Pay my line editor. Send prizes to winners of the Virtual Tour contests. Garden as much as I can.
Seeking guest authors and who is coming up next
There are still openings for guest authors for this blog. If you are or know an author that would like to write a blog post about their work or novel, please let them know that I’m looking. They have until the 15th of this month to get their posts and accompanying art to me.
Our first guest author is Emily S. Hill. Look for her post next Wednesday.
Fun writing moments
In one scene Travis waves Mallory over and asks her for help. She makes a joke that she thinks it’s a little early in Travis and Raven’s relationship for him to be seeking sex advice. He tells her that isn’t what he needs help with. This scene cracked me up as I was writing it.
Also, I love Mallory’s business partner Cass and I’m sure you will too.
