I loved this book so much. It is an awesome follow-up novel to her debut novel Smoke Gets in Your Eyes. I am unashamedly a fan of her YouTube channel. I love her conversational writing style and her admirable ability to take her own beliefs out of the equation and observe rituals with an open mind and lack of judgment. She went in a genius search for death rituals and aspects of grief that are different than ours here in the West.
I lost my father in 2007, being his only child I was left with the daunting task of handling what would happen. I remember the surreal moment of leaving the hospital where he died after they unplugged the life support. The drive to a local funeral home and the questions and decisions, while I held his leather wallet. I couldn't remember how many of his 12 brothers and sisters were still living. One of the things that I can vividly remember is the difference in prices between news papers for the obituary.
I admire what Caitlin is doing to help others understand that they don't have to do this alone or only accept the choices laid before them by the industry.
