Would you like to add a little fun to your sex life? Would you like to spice up your sex life? Lubricants can make all kinds of ideas possible. Lubes can be used in a multitude of ways, from intercourse, masturbation, or applied to sex toys for added comfort.
We reviewed the top water based personal lubricants on the market and found these 5 best lubes you just can not pass up. These similar water-based lubes, Passion Lubes, Isabel Fay, Pink Water, Aloe Cadabra 2-in-1, and Blossom Organics, are all glycerin and paraben free.
How we made up our mind.
We judged these water-based lubricants on quite a few factors: How easy was it to get the lube out of the bottle? How pleasing was the bottle in appearance when left on a nightstand? The bang for your buck - did a little go a long way and how was the use compared to the amount given? Did we have reactions to skin or infections with use? How compatible was the lube with toy usage for men and women based toys? Lastly, we tested with our senses in taste, feel, and odor. Was it pleasing to the eye? Was it pleasing to the nose? Did it have a taste? Was it consistent in texture? All of these things matter to us, and we only want the most satisfaction for your experience.
What is it about Water-based lubricants?
Water-based lubricants often come in two categories: with glycerin and without glycerin. The lubes with glycerin often have synthetic glycerin giving the lubricant a sweet taste that makes up most of the flavored and warming lubes on the market. These lubes are typically not ph balanced which can lead to skin reactions and rashes with use. These lubes are safe to use with toys but can be a little bit more difficult to clean. These lubes are safe to use with condoms and do not stain fabrics, which can come quite in handy. These lubes are often used during oral sex because of the added sweet taste. They can, however, dry out and become sticky to the touch. Yeast infections in women and irritation caused by parabens or propylene glycol can occur in some people.. Water-based lubricants with no glycerin often contain vegetable based glycerin which has been found to not trigger infections or allergies. These lubricants last longer by not being as sticky as quickly, are safe for use with latex, and are often endorsed for anal play, which makes them all the more fun. The downside to no glycerin lubes are a bitter taste and they are found online and a select few adult stores. Our samples were all water-based lubricants with no glycerin, with some that were even geared toward pH balance needs for a more natural feeling.
Onto the Lubes themselves!

Passion Lubes, Natural Water-based Lubricant, is our first product up for review. This 34-ounce bottle is clear with an ombre blue label, accompanied with a spill-proof pump top. With the pump lid, you get just the right amount of lubrication, and we found that it had a longer shelf life when compared to other select brands. The lube also had the least amount of viscosity so you can be assured that it is going to last. According to the manufacturer, it has a shelf life of up to 3 years. Hopefully you won't have to find this out for yourself. That’s a long time!
The bottle has a nice sleek design so much so that the bottle handled being dropped off the nightstand a few times without killing the pump top or popping open to spill on the floor. The product comes out in a nice amount and is easy to reapply if needed. This lube did not irritate the skin or cause any adverse infections when directly applied. When it came to toy use, it felt very natural with female-based toys, and was found to be thick enough for Fleshlight use as well. It felt natural and smelled just as well. Isabel Fay Natural Intimate Personal for Sensitive Skin is our second water-based lubricant. Isabel Fay comes in an 8-ounce plastic apothecary jar style packaging with a black pump lid. This bottle will be very discreet on your nightstand and blend well with lotion bottles, which makes it seem almost incognito to guests. The nice part about this product is a 100% money back guarantee, so if you’re not satisfied, you will get every penny back. This lube also didn’t give us any skin reactions or infections. Actually, it made my skin feel very smooth after using it directly. The lube also is a great option for oral sex being that it has no real taste. The lube cleaned up very nicely from the skin and toys leaving little to no residue left on the skin. It worked well with toys, with only a few exceptions. It dried out, however, when used with the Fleshlight masturbation toys. When it came to using this lube with insertion toys, it worked better than we had expected. Lube 3
Pink Water is our third lube that we tested. Ir comes in a 3.3-ounce bottle with a small pump lid, which just so happens to be very spill proof. This lubricant received 4.3 stars out of 5 on Amazon, which could contribute to its discreet bottle and its compact size. We had no reactions or infections with this lubricant either when directly applied to the skin. Not only would it be my go to for toy use, masturbation, or mutual masturbation, but it was also a great choice to help with the Diva cup. There was no real taste or smell accompanied with this lubrication making it a good option for oral sex as well, and it felt fine, almost natural, on my skin. The lube cleaned up very nicely from the skin and toys leaving some to residue left on the skin but cleaned up well on the toys used with it leaving no residue..
Pros: The small bottle makes it easy to discreetly take along on trips, and it’s a go to for not only toy use but also female hygiene menstrual cup.
Cons: It seems to be able to dry out, but a little water will help bring it back to life.
Lube 4
Aloe Cadabra 2-in-1 Organic Personal Lubricant & Moisturizer is our fourth personal lubricant that we reviewed. This is the most discreet bottle of all - it looks just like a small bottle of suntan lotion or after burn lotion, and is very compact in size. Its sleek 2.5-ounce white bottle design with a photo of a woman in the water is so easy to overlook, and just the name of the product Aloe Cadabra helps its incognito outlook as well. The fact that you only need a little bit of it at a time, and it has dual duty, makes it a great choice. It contains 95% Aloe Vera and Vitamin E, which makes this one one of the best for pH balance.Because of the Aloe and Vitamin E, there are no reactions or infections when used. It actually can double as a moisturizer. It worked very well with toys and condoms also. This lube had a bit of a bitter and tart taste so one I would not recommend using if you are going to be involved in oral sex. The lube cleaned up very quickly from the skin and toys leaving little to no residue left on the skin and none on any toys used with it..This felt very natural with no odor or any real taste.
Pros: It’s very beneficial to pH balance, is made with natural ingredients, acts as a moisturizer, and has a very discreet design that makes it easy to hide in plain sight.
Cons: The cost is a bit higher per ounce.
Lube 5
Blossom Organics Natural Moisturizing Lubricant is our last lubricant we reviewed for our best water-based products. This bottle would be discreet on a woman’s nightstand but with girly flowers and purple accents, some might find it to be a bit hard to explain to some men. Blossom Organics comes in a 4-ounce plastic squeeze type bottle with a twist cap. With the twist cap, it isn’t as great of a bang for your buck, it being more likely that you might squeeze out more than you want. This also increases the probability that it might get everywhere else either than where you want the lubricant. Again, we had no reactions or infections with its use on skin. It seems to work well with toys of both kinds, for both men and women, and there was no real taste or odor detected during its use making it a good option also if you are going to be performing any oral sex. The lube cleaned up very nicely from the skin and toys leaving little to no residue left on the skin.
Pros: There was no real taste or odor, and it gave no reactions or infections during use.
Cons: It’s in a squeeze bottle with a twist cap, which could cause you to lose more product in the heat of the moment.
And the winner is:
Passion Lubes Natural Water-Based Lubricant, 34 Fluid Ounce!
With its ease of cleanup, the pump top giving the right amount of substance, the longer shelf life, and the compatibility with toy usage, it was a clear winner for all involved in the experiment. This product lasted the longest and can be used on a veritable cornucopia of different toys. It’s ability to handle a drop was also refreshing. This product felt the most natural out of all that I have found on the market.
Let’s recap this product:
Passion Lubes comes in 34-ounce bottle and is clear with a blue label, accompanied by a spill-proof pump top. With the pump lid, you get just the right amount of lube and we found that it has helped lengthen the already long shelf life of this particular product. According to the manufacturer, it has a shelf life of up to 3 years, which is longer than most lubricants on the market. The bottle handled being dropped off the nightstand a few times without killing the pump top or spilling all over the floor. It was a hit with all types of toys and fun activities like anal, and passed with flying colors in all areas. It also comes in the largest size available which is a huge plus.
The best buy is:
Pink Water 3.3 Fluid Ounce. Let’s recap:
With its small bottle that can fit easily in overnight bags and its versatility of use with activities, toys, and menstrual cups, we can see why it goes further with your money than most. Pink’s 3.3-ounce bottle with a small pump lid which is very spill proof was a clear winner in our best buy category. It has no real taste or smell and felt fine on all skin types. With this one, you’re sure to get more bang for your buck!
So what is the verdict after all that fun?
Water-based lubricants with no glycerin are very similar in the lubricant itself causing no reactions or infections of any kind, no matter the conditions. These lubes are a great choice for sensitive skin along with a wide range of toys and fun activities. The only differences we could find was in the lubricants themselves was in the viscosity, which made a difference in length of time for usage. If you are using male masturbation toys you might want to pick a water-based lubricant that is a bit thicker, so it doesn’t dry up so fast, if at all.
The real difference we found in our five best water-based lubricants was the discretion of the bottle and the bang for our buck. We liked the pump lids more than the caps and squeeze bottles due to the lack of product loss. The pump lid gave you a nice amount of use and kept everything cleaner, leaving you with no mess on the drawer of the nightstand no matter how messy or slippery things got. Isabel Fay and Aloe Cadabra 2-in-1 had the most discreet bottles that would easily blend in with items in the bedroom, which makes them worth their own value. Blossom Organics was the least discreet of all the bottles we tried, and it was almost invisible to the eye - the most easily overlooked by even the most keen of sights. With its purple lettering and flowers on a white background, it just didn’t have the same pickup appeal. When it came to toy usage compatibility, the Isabel Fay brand fell a little short in the male masturbation toys, the reason being that it was a little quicker to dry out after a long period of use when compared to the rest. All of the lubes in our sample felt nice, had little or no taste, and pleasant odor, so really the decision is up to you!
