Have you ever been working on the characters for your novel and one of them surprise you with their story?
This has happened to me twice so far in the Fire series. Once in book 2 a character which I thought would just there to fill in the background. And yesterday when I was working on the antagonists for book 3.
One of these minor low-level bad guys for the novel started to tell me their story. I knew within moments that they had a bigger story to tell. I made a quick note on how they would enter the group of people who populate my series.
I am still working on the last cast members for the 3rd novel after today I will have only one more to go. Then I am taking a much-needed break from writing the novels. Instead, I have a long list of projects to make my 2019 goals a reality.
